Drawn Animation Showreel

This is my first demo reel of some test animation that I've done in the past

It is a rough cut - a work in progress. I am working on learning the animation skills

so that I can eventually use my own animated figures in telling the stories that I am developing.

Hello, everyone! This is my rough draft of my hand-drawn animation showreel, featuring a personal test I'm currently developing. The centerpiece of this reel is a scene with Kanger, a spirited kangaroo, (character created by me) and Jazz Hoffman, an adventurous young girl (character created by my friend and classmate Ian Wootan). In this sequence, Kanger's energetic hops and playful gestures contrast with Jazz's curious and determined movements, highlighting their dynamic relationship.

Character Movements:

  • Double Bounce Walk Cycle: In this short exploratory segment, Kanger, our spirited kangaroo, demonstrates a double bounce walk. This style adds a lively and exaggerated rhythm to his steps, capturing his energetic personality. The double bounce involves an extra upward motion between steps, giving the walk a buoyant and playful feel.

  • Run Cycle: Jazz, the adventurous young girl, is featured in a dynamic run cycle. Emphasizing forward momentum, her lean and arm swings convey determination. Attention to the spacing of each frame ensures her run feels more fluid and purposeful.

  • Facial Expressions: Throughout the reel, both characters exhibit a range of emotions. By focusing on changes in their eyes, eyebrows, and mouth shapes, I've aimed to portray authentic reactions, enhancing their relatability and depth.

  • Dancing Movements Synced to Rhythmic Beats: A highlight of the reel is a dance sequence where Kanger and Goil and an additional character named CJ (created by Ian Wootan) in separate frames - perform synchronized moves to a rhythmic beat. This required me to learn timing to align their actions with the music, ensuring that each movement complements the auditory experience.

I want to say thank you to Emily Boulger and the staff at Shoe Town, in Haverhill, MA especially CJ Sakrison and Colby Patre, for the intense lessons and support creatively and technically in animation and drawing.

Also, thanks to Christian and Timothy.
